Humanrace Suncare Standards

We’ve explained a few commonly used sunscreen terms and what the Humanrace standards are for suncare, putting safety and efficacy at the forefront of our formulations.

Sunscreen should be worn daily, regardless of weather or skin type. Subscribe to Humanrace Suncare to maintain your daily commitment to sunscreen.

UVA and UVB rays

UVA and UVB rays are two types of UV radiation that emits from the sun and can damage your skin. UVB rays have a shorter wavelength and are associated with skin burning, while UVA rays have a longer wavelength and can cause premature aging, wrinkles, and dark spots if proper sun protection measures are not taken.

Broad Spectrum

Since both UVA and UVB rays from the sun can damage your skin, it is important to use a sunscreen that protects from both rays. Humanrace Suncare is broad spectrum, signifying it protects against UVA and UVB rays.

PA Rating

PA rating, short for Protection Grade of UVA, is a test that measures the protection against UVA rays. UVA rays can cause premature aging, wrinkles, and dark spots. Humanrace Suncare products achieved the highest rating, PA ++++, indicating an extremely high UVA protection.

SPF Rating

SPF, short for Sun Protection Factor, is a measurement of how long sunscreen will protect you from UVB rays. Humanrace Suncare has an SPF rating of 30, which means 97% of the sun’s rays are blocked if sunscreen is applied correctly. Remember, all sunscreen needs to be reapplied at least every 2 hours, or immediately after swimming, sweating, or towel drying.

Mineral Sunscreen

Humanrace Suncare formulations are mineral-based, this means we do not use chemicals as the main active ingredient to protect you from the sun. Mineral sunscreens are safer for your skin and do not harm the coral reefs in our oceans.

Broad Spectrum

Broad Spectrum

Yes, Humanrace Suncare is broad spectrum, indicating protection against UVA & UVB rays.

There are two types of rays that emits from the sun, UVA and UVB. UVA is responsible for early skin aging, dark spots, and can cause skin cancer, while UVB rays physically burn your skin. Humanrace Suncare protects from both UVA and UVB rays.

SPF Rating

SPF Rating

Humanrace Suncare has an SPF 30 value.

SPF, short for Sun Protection Factor, is a measurement of how long sunscreen will protect you from UVB rays, the rays that burn your skin.

SPF stands for “Sun Protection Factor” and measures how long the sunscreen will protect against UVB rays.

The difference between an SPF 30 vs. SPF 50 is only a 1% difference in terms of the ability to block the sun’s UV rays. Remember, regardless of SPF rating, you need to reapply at least every 2 hours and take appropriate sun protection measures.

Humanrace Suncare is mineral sunscreen.

Chemical sunscreens absorb into your skin and go through a process of converting UV rays into heat so they can then absorb the UV rays. Mineral sunscreens work as physical blockers and shield the UV rays before they reach your skin, instead of absorbing into your skin. Humanrace Suncare is mineral based as we believe it is safer for your body to use mineral sunscreen.

Zinc Oxide

Zinc Oxide

It was important for Humanrace to make mineral sunscreen, which uses Zinc Oxide as the main active ingredient.

The Ozone Face Protection Daily Moisturizer and Ozone Body Protection Cream contain 15% Zinc Oxide.

This is a slightly confusing conversation within the industry. The percentage of active ingredient does not correlate to the SPF rating. To determine the SPF rating, our product goes through rigorous testing (we conduct FDA and ISO) and the SPF value is determined by the formula as a whole, not by the percentage of zinc. Both of our FDA and ISO tests came back with an SPF 30 rating.

No, nano particles can be dangerous as they get absorbed into the skin and can harm marine life in the oceans, therefore we use non-nano zinc oxide. This also complies with EU regulations.

It was important to us to innovate the product to get as minimal of white cast as possible so all skin tones could use this sunscreen.

PA ++++

PA ++++

A PA rating (Protection Grade of UVA) indicates the level of protection from UVA rays, the rays predominately responsible for early skin aging. PA ++++ is the highest rating possible.

The PA rating was established by Japan, as there was no rating system that informed users the strength of protection against UVA rays. Since an SPF rating only indicates protection against UVB rays, it is important to conduct UVA testing as well.

Testing & Safety

Testing & Safety

We carefully follow and pass all mandatory testing from the FDA. Since we are global, our sunscreen goes through additional testing as well.

Because of babies’ delicate skin, it is recommended that babies are kept out of the sun for the first 6 months. Please speak with your child’s pediatrician or doctor for any specific questions. Our mineral sunscreen is great for sensitive and delicate skin.
